The Licentiate Came To Visit

7 Apr

I’m forever indebted to the wonderful Sarah from The Licentiate for helping me out this week and providing a very deadly guest post for you all to brighten up your Thursday. Enjoy!

Hello, I’m Sarah and I’ve got a blog.

Aisling was expecting me to write a guest post on why I could never work in PR, but if I did that it would only be one sentence long.

Example 1: I could never work in PR because… I’m not that good at it.

Example 2: I could never work in PR because… it involves being nice to people, and who wants to do that?

See where I’m going with this? It wouldn’t be very entertaining.  And I have a lot of respect for people who work in PR.  It’s a hard job.  The Hills has a LOT to answer for.

So instead, I’m going to recommend some books that will pep the spirit and, I think, ease a bit of the inspiration jet lag that we’re all having lately.

That’s pretty close to my original idea, isn’t it?

Maybe you shouldn’t answer that question.

1)  My Wonderful World of Fashion by Nina Chakrabharti

This fashion colouring book is filled with gorgeous line drawings of vintage clothes, shoes, bags and fabrics – all begging to be filled in on a lazy afternoon with a box of fat, stubby felt tips.

2) Ways of Seeing by John Berger

This book was originally published in 1972 to accompany a BBC television series.  It was so widely-read that almost forty years later, it’s still in print.  If you want to know more about art, or just want to be able to see things in a different light, then read this book.  Not pretentious, just common sense.

3) Wreck This Journal: To Create is to Destroy by Keri Smith

Being creative isn’t about being perfect.  This journal teaches you how to make beautiful mistakes and think outside the lines, and find inspiration in the mundane.  Plus you get to crumple pages and make a general mess.  I am always down with that.

Comment! Sarah will be sad if you don’t. Maybe.
