G is for Gorgeous…

Gorgeous, glamorous, grand, glorious, glittering…

Have you ever been somewhere so gorgeous you just wanted to tattoo it on the inside of your eyelids and look at it even while asleep? That has happened to me on three occasions.

First, in Disneyland, Paris. I mean, Paris in general is a very beautiful city. But it doesn’t have a magical castle. Or Disney Princesses trotting about the place in ballgowns.

Second, in Las Vegas. Basically, Disneyland for adults. 24-hour… EVERYTHING, hotels modelled on actual cities, hourly mutinies aboard a life-size pirate ship with ACTUAL pirates. And the colours. Oh, the colours.

But the third place where I’ve experienced the never-want-to-leave-here buzz is in Ireland. None other than The G Hotel in Galway.

Anyone who has ever been there will tell you, it is unbelievably gorgeous. Not like ANY other hotel I’ve ever been in (or seen, for that matter) The G has an interior that is not of this world.

Designed by milliner-to-the-stars Philip Treacy, it is an utterly delicious aesthetic feast that will take your breath away at every turn.

From the glossy black and white lobby, to the jet black/hot pink corridors, to the impeccable white, pink and blue salons, you’ll look like a complete twat tourist going around snapping pictures at every angle in every room – but it’s worth it.

Oh, just in case anyone’s wondering why I’m going on so much about The G, it’s purely because I love the place and not because I’m on commission for room bookings or anything. *freedom from The Man*

Everyone should see this place. If you are a Philip Treacy fan (which I am, a huge one) you’ll love the place even more as there are prints of his hat sketches on all the walls of the hotel.

Read the morning papers in the White Room, have afternoon tea in the Pink Room, order pre-dinner cocktails in the Blue Room and then HAVE THE GOD DAMN STEAK in the fabulous, purple top-to-toe restaurant, Matz.

Then retreat to your room to enjoy your freshly baked ‘G’ cupcake while watching some of the movies provided for you on your room’s DVD player.

Oh, and FYI. You WILL want to steal the bed. I advise against this. My reasons are threefold. It’s illegal to steal, you’ll never get it past security, and finally, you’re gonna want to go back, so a crime spree mightn’t be the best way to end your stay.
